Devlog #3 - Level Up !
Hey everybody ! We’re today with our new devlog talking about the new leveling system, the improvements on the camera, and the day and night cycle. All of this is ready for the next Endless Wander update !
LEVELING SYSTEM
With this update we introduced our light leveling system. At the moment, there are five skill branches : Constitution (your life), Endurance (your stamina), Swordplay (the damage you do with a sword), Parry (your capacity to parry and counter), and Dodge (your capacity to dodge). You’ll be able to level up those skills while fighting and adventuring in Grimvale, granting you some bonuses.
We’re planning on adding active skills (like a special attack of some sort for example) that you’ll be able to unlock if you’re at one of the milestone levels on a skill branch (0, 5, 10, 15, 20). But, you’ll have to learn the skill from a master to be able to use it.
At each chapter of Endless Wander, the cap of each skill branch will be lifted a bit more. For example, here in chapter 1, dodge is capped at level 5. In chapter 2, it’ll be capped at level 10, etc...
IMPROVED CAMERA
We totally reworked the camera, changing entirely the fighting feeling, moving towards a more cinematic experience. To do so, we attached the camera to the shoulder in order to make it move with each movements of Draven. We also brought the camera closer to the character. We’re really excited to know your thoughts on this change (but it’s too bad you can’t read this, non-english speaker testers !).
We also developed a system that permits us to move the camera so that it faces the interlocutor while in dialogue. It really gives life to the dialogues and the characters.
DAY/NIGHT CYCLE
We added a day and night cycle and reworked on the lighting in the night (so that you can actually play at night and see around). A day lasts one hour in real life. When you’re not in a fight, you can wait to skip time.
When NPCs will be able to move around and live their lives, they’ll have things to do depending on the time of the day.
